We were contacted by Craig's mum, Michelle, who wished to share here story with us. She has kindly sent us the following story and pictures to put on the website.
Hi, my name is Michelle. I have a son Craig who was born in January 2008, 11 weeks premature. I have been meaning to get in touch for a while with some updates.
When Craig was born he weighed a tiny 2lb. He is now 3 years old and about to start nursery. Craig went through a lot of ups and downs whilst in the Neonatal Unit. He kept catching infections and having to be resuscitated and put back on the ventilator. The nurses called him wee Bob as at the time he was known as Craig Monkhouse. If it had not of been for the nurses I hate to think where we would be now. Finally, after all his ups and downs he came home weighing almost 5lb which was the best day of our lives .
During Craig' s first year he was in and out of hospital with infections and needing oxygen to help with his breathing. Craig has a few problems with talking and understanding, but with the help of speech therapists and psychologists we are slowly seeing improvements, but we are sure we will see more when he starts nursery in a few weeks time. Darren and I finally got married in August 2009 where Craig was a pageboy, we were meant to get married in January 2008 but Craig came early. Craig is now a big brother to his sister Rachel who is 15 months old, she was also a baby in the Unit but was only in for a few days. She is also doing well.
We would like to thank all the nurses and doctors for taking care of our little boy and girl.
